DOWNTIME

Jupiter Island is a paradise for boaters and nature lovers and is convenient to the quaint towns of the Treasure Coast.

Majestic banyan trees create an enchanting canopy overhead as one approaches Jupiter Island, a private sanctuary of tropical beauty long renowned as Florida’s premier residential community. Nestled along the Treasure Coast’s southernmost barrier island and framed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, Jupiter Island is a paradise that surrounds its residents with natural beauty on all sides. Abundant foliage, interwoven with tall shady trees and palms, forms a verdant background that opens up to miles of pristine beaches and river scenery. Opportunities for enjoying the wonderful outdoors abound, from boating and world-class fishing to surfing, swimming, and basking lazily in the sun. Walking and biking are favorite pastimes for those who prefer a quiet, close-up experience with the Island’s 17-mile long stretch of colorful sights.

Amid this serene setting, one finds some of the world’s most stunning custom estate homes accented by lush gardens, exquisite landscaping, and panoramic water vistas. Diversity in architectural styling ranges from contemporary and traditional to Bermudian or designs indicative of Key West or old Florida, each portraying its own superb, one-of-a-kind flavor. The area is noted for its tradition of gracious, genteel living and seclusion from the main stream.

Jupiter Island’s fine reputation and historical integrity date back to early days when many of the country’s first industrialists made this inspirational area their winter home. Incorporated as a town in 1953, Jupiter Island maintains this integrity today and is dedicated to preserving the environment’s exceptional beauty. A large part of the land has been given to the United States Fish and Wildlife Service and the Nature Conservancy. Explore 735 acres of Florida’s fascinating flora and fauna in the Hobe Sound Nature Center, founded by the Jupiter Island Garden Club, which shares its space with the high unspoiled land of the Hobe Sound National Wildlife Refuge located to the west of the Indian River Lagoon. To the north, the St. Lucie Inlet State Park recalls the charm of old Florida, with its secluded peninsula where boaters can come ashore. One of the Island’s outstanding natural attractions is Blowing Rocks Preserve, named for its dramatic spouting flumes of water that reach up to 50 feet high. Here, one can view the coastal wonders from an oceanside walk, visit the beautiful butterfly garden and plant nursery, or take part in educational programs that are provided by the Hawley Educational Center.

Located 25 miles north of the Palm Beaches, Jupiter Island is within a short distance of the quaint village of Hobe Sound and minutes away from Stuart (“Sailfish Capital of the World”), Jupiter, and Tequesta. Hobe Sound, a delightfully relaxing contrast to city life, is a friendly little town of boutiques, galleries, restaurants, and popular community events such as the annual Festival of the Arts. Other Hobe Sound attractions are its beautiful golf courses along with the scheduled events and matches at the world-class Hobe Sound Polo Club. This picturesque area of the Treasure Coast boasts the second largest park in Florida, Jonathan Dickinson State Park. The 11,500-acre natural wonderland offers both adventure and quiet exploration and is home to wildlife galore including 140 species of birds. Kayaking and canoeing are especially popular here, or visitors can take a tour of the Loxahatchee River by rental boat or aboard the Loxahatchee Queen II. Just south of Jonathan Dickinson lie the picturesque, neighboring towns of Jupiter and Tequesta. The Jupiter Lighthouse overlooks azure waters that attract anglers and boaters from all over the world. Rich in history, Jupiter and Tequesta each offer an array of museums, galleries, fine dining, and waterfront activities.

With its proximity to so many of the Treasure Coast’s recreational, cultural, and sporting venues, Jupiter Island is also convenient to Palm Beach International Airport and the Stuart Jet Center.
