Welcome to Troon Vineyard & Winery
Troon Vineyard has a unique place in the state's wine story as well as its location in the secluded Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon, which makes this property and business opportunity truly special. Built by an Oregon wine pioneer and shaped by opportunity, this vineyard is a piece of history with its eye focused on the future.
In 2002, the Biscuit Fire burned 500,000 acres of land in Southern Oregon and Northern California. Though vines at Troon were left untouched, a veil of smoke lingered for days imbuing the wine with a smoky flavor that brings connoisseurs searching for the winery's namesake 2002 Biscuit Fire Cabernet Reserve even today. Troon's special location created a fortuitous circumstance to create a legend.
Troon Vineyard is located about 20 minutes outside Grants Pass in the Applegate Valley AVA, a special location in Oregon's wine territory that experiences warmer and drier growing conditions than most of the state and is home to less than 10 wineries.
The 32-acre property takes advantage of warm sun, cool nights and perfect elevation to produce 10,000-12,000 cases of award-winning wines every year. Founded in 1972 by Dick Troon with nothing more than a few vines and an adventurous spirit, Troon Winery is noted for wines that have won numerous awards and accolades. But perhaps its best known varietal is Druid's Fluid. Born from a stuck fermentation, this perennial favorite was created by Dick Troon from blend of Merlot, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel. In 2003 Dick hand-selected his good friend Larry Martin to carry on the Troon Vineyard legacy.
Troon's primary sales market is Oregon, and sales tend to be about 60% wholesale and 40% retail. Sales in California are growing as notoriety spreads and the popularity of Oregon wines continues to grow.
Troon's French chateau-inspired tasting room is situated atop a hillside providing spectacular panoramic views from windows spanning two stories. A full-service kitchen offers ample space to prepare delicious bites to complement the wine-tasting menu and can also serve as a teaching kitchen. Troon Vineyard also has a wine tasting room in Carlton, Oregon, the home base of the Yamhill-Carlton Viticultural Center and a popular spot for wine tourism.
Troon's grounds offer guests the opportunity to spend time playing on bocce courts and an oversized chess board complete with 2-foot-tall pieces that are easily maneuvered - even with a wine glass in hand. The beautiful grounds are a popular setting for events, including weddings, dinners, and outdoor concerts.
The 4,000-square-foot winery facilities are modern while maintaining the vineyard's heritage and dedication to handcrafted, small-batch wine making. The entire operation practices sustainable and organic farming methods. No herbicides or pesticides are used and the vines are all tended by hand.
Offering includes: winemaker's cottage, tasting room & offices, winery and two warehouses.
