Over Keizersgracht 442

A fully renovated 18th century canal house on the prestigious Keizersgracht in Amsterdam – a truly and unique proposition

Built by wealthy Diones Muilman in 1740, the six-floor residence on the canal front served to impress, while the separate yet connected ‘back house’ across the courtyard garden was built at a later date and used as simpler living quarters. This exquisitely decorated property was the pure embodiment of wealth and status. Eventhough the width of the premises is relatively small, the depth and height unfolds it to a next level residence.

The elegant entrance of the property is located on the first floor. Having the entrance on a flight of steps was traditionally realised for functional purposes; it was the perfect way to stay dry during floods. Behind the entrance lies the pearl of this residence, which is the so-called 'front-house' with a beautiful corridor, high ceilings, marble floors and two fascinating period rooms with fireplaces and numerous charming details which in turn provide a magnificent view on the canal.

In the second half of the 18th century an outbuilding was realised in the garden. This can be seen as a second home connected to an atmospheric courtyard which has been updated with a dazzling roofwindow. The second home is seperated from the front part of the house and can be directly reached from the canal through a long corridor. The idea behind the second home is to create additional living space, but it can also serve as a second residence.

All in all, there is 830 m² of history and atmosphere on offer. The lower ground floor is home to the kitchen with beamed ceilings and Belgian hard stone flooring, and several storage rooms. The restored ceilings are richly ornamented and fitted with trompe l'oeil designed by artist Peter Korver. Be amazed by the paintings showing in great detail how the first inhabitants amassed their fortunes through surviving long voyages across the oceans.

Anything and everything was restored during a major renovation in 2011. At this moment are the period rooms, outbuilding, the first and second floors used as office space. The third and fourth floors contain massive empty rooms that can perfectlty be used as a luxurious apartment with an elevator. This elevator can take you quickly and comfortably from the highest floors to the basement. But wouldn’t it be wonderful if this listed canal house once again became an impressive home?

Moreover, Keizersgracht 422 lies near the renowned Nine Streets, between Molenpad and Runstraat. It is absolutely possible to own two parking spaces in the parking garage Molenpad (few minutes walk from the mansion). The front part of the property is classified as a national monument which offers various (tax) benefits to the new owners.
