关于 55 Ferry Rd, Bristol Rhode Island

Aptly named “Wind Hill”, this 17 acre waterfront estate features an 1890 mansion set high on a hill to offer panoramic west facing water views of Narragansett Bay and stunning sunsets over the water. The property also includes a sizeable Carriage House, gate house, stables, and tennis court.  With its deep water dock with a boat lift, Wind Hill is an ideal estate for yacht owners & reflects the owners’ passion for yachting.

During the 12 meter era of America’s Cup from 1958 until 1983, the yacht racing was in and around Narragansett Bay. The late owner campaigned an America’s Cup boat and frequently hosted parties at Wind Hill attended by many America’s Cup luminaries such as Frenchman Baron Marcel Bich, Australian Alan Bond (who financed the 1983 America’s Cup where the yacht Australia II won and thereby broke the longest winning streak in sporting history), and American Ted Hood.  Fittingly, the guests would often arrive by boat and dock at Wind Hill’s large deep water dock. Both wife and husband were very active sailers who often sailed with their family in a dozen offshore yacht races including 7 Newport to Bermuda races and a transatlantic race to Cork, Ireland.  For many years, he was also on the committee to select inductees into The America's Cup Hall of Fame, located at the Herreshoff Marine Museum in Bristol, Rhode Island and was also a Commodore of the Cruising Club of America.

The Tudor style manor house was designed in 1890 by New York the based architectural firm Trowbridge and Livingston who designed the Altman and Company department store (1905), J. P. Morgan Building (1913), the Oregon State Capitol (1938) and numerous luxury townhouses in Manhattan.  The grounds were expertly re-designed by the Olmsted Brothers who were renowned landscape architects.   The manor house offers expansive & unobstructed water views and consists of 7328 sq. ft. of living space over 3 floors with 10 bedrooms, 6.3 bathrooms, and 6 fireplaces.  When it was constructed, the salt water pool was the first in a private residence within Rhode Island.  The pool is set within a charming walled garden area and also offers views of the Bay.

In addition to the manor house, there is a post & beam Carriage House with 3652 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms, 2.1 bathrooms built in 1990’s which is ideal for visiting friends and family. The historic gate house from the 1920’s consists of 1855 sq. ft., 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms was originally built as accommodation for the chauffeur.  There are numerous garage spaces (11) to house one’s car collection.  There are also stables and a tennis court making the estate a paradise for those enjoying the sporting lifestyle!

Bristol, Rhode Island is a quintessential historic New England waterfront town which was first settled in the 1680’s.  With its rich history spanning over three centuries and an unwavering commitment to preservation, Bristol offers the picture-perfect charm of a historic port town.  Bristol also hosts the nation’s oldest continuous Fourth of July parade and celebration.  Bristol is conveniently located merely 20 minutes from Newport and Providence as well as only one hour from Boston.
