New York, New York (March 8, 2021) — Laurel Hill boasts the rarest of provenances, previously owned by Abby Rockefeller Mauzé, the granddaughter of oil magnate, John D. Rockefeller. Ms. Rockefeller Mauzé was a beloved and generous philanthropist to myriad causes, however, her enduring legacy is perhaps Greenacre Park, an oasis of trees, flowers and a 25-foot cascade of water off 51st Street in New York City. In 1971, when dedicating the park — with land she purchased, landscaped and still endows — she said her hope was that “people will find here some moments of serenity in this busy world.”

That same sentiment seemingly drove her vision for Laurel Hill, a resplendent estate celebrating Tudor architecture. Ms. Rockefeller Mauzé purchased the home and proceeded to procure neighboring lots, numbering 10 over time, to create her wooded 57-acre sanctuary appointed with two miles of walking trails and an abundance of gardens.

Current owner William J. Catacosinos, who purchased Laurel Hill in 1978 from the estate of Abby Rockefeller Mauzé, proved to be the ideal steward. He completely modernized the property while honoring its enduring legacy.

Laurel Hill’s 57 acres is completely fenced for ultimate privacy and entered through stately wrought-iron gates and a three-quarter-mile drive lined with stands of beech trees and wending through a forest of deciduous hardwoods with their thick leafy canopies. The drive ends in a cobblestone motor court, landscaped with azalea and magnolia bushes with blooming perennials bursting with color. The historic 10,000-square-foot Tudor manor, dating to 1928, presides over the property against a backdrop of rolling manicured lawns.
