Estate in Starwood, Aspen’s premier gated enclave, offers a luxury home with security and privacy plus two adjoining lots, currently used as a buffer and zoned for future development

Offered at US$25,000,000, the existing 7,903-square-foot residence is replete with high-end appointments and located on more than two acres; the two vacant lots total more than eight acres

New York, New York (September 2, 2021) — Buildable land is at a premium in Aspen, Colorado, due to tightening zoning regulations. The Starwood estate includes not one but two buildable lots. Currently used as a buffer, the land could be developed to create the ultimate family compound, sold now or later, or remain undeveloped for the bucolic setting that exists today.

The existing 7,903-square-foot home is a masterpiece of architectural design with its use of exotic stone and woods, welcoming natural light and views while offering ultimate security. The estate, with five en suite bedrooms and five full baths and three half baths on 2.63 acres, is represented by Fiona Hagist of Christie’s International Real Estate Aspen Snowmass. The US$25,000,000 price includes the two land parcels, one of 4.18 acres and the other, 4.37 acres.

Said Danielle Austin of Christie’s International Real Estate: “This offering is a value proposition on a number of levels, given the scarcity of developable land in Aspen. The home itself is a masterpiece of architectural art with its use of natural elements and soaring spaces working in concert with Aspen’s natural beauty.”

The Starwood estate makes an indelible first impression with its majestic stone turret and peaked roof mirroring the Rocky Mountain range beyond. The exterior façade includes a pitched covered entry and elements of wood and stone.

The home opens through a massive pivot-hinged walnut door, flanked by a pane of glass. The great room includes both living and dining areas with soaring cathedral ceilings and walls of windows framing views of the surrounding mountains. The showpiece is the staircase, housed in the turret, ascending to the second level and appointed with a two-story delicate thread of lights under a copper cupula. The turret has multiple windows, flooding the main living areas with even more natural light. The curved wooden steps are works of art, gracefully matching the turret’s geometry.

A double-facing gas fireplace serves both the dining room and the den. The living, dining rooms and den have walk-outs to decks with airy Rocky Mountain views and ample space for alfresco dining and entertaining.

The chef’s kitchen is notable for its lovely blue Iranian lapis lazuli accents. Appliances are top of the line and complementing the blue stone are counters and an island of white quartzite. There is also an informal dining area.

Also on this level is the resort-quality primary suite with a fireplace, pampering bath, deck and oversized closet. The floors throughout are hand-selected museum quality African walnut. The doors are three-piece burled walnut with leather-wrapped handles. This wood is typically reserved for the dashboards of Rolls-Royce or Bentley automobiles and is rarely seen in a residential setting.

The upper levels of the home feature a large den, with half bath and full bar, plus a large en suite bedroom or home office with spectacular views and wood sauna.

On the ground level are three additional en suite bedrooms, all with direct outdoor access; the home theater, which seats eight; and the game room, with a billiards table and spa. The spa has a 3D topographical map of the surrounding Aspen area on the ceiling made of wood with an LED light showing the exact location of the home. The billiards room has an inlayed slab of stone on the wall as art that is called the “tigers eye” which is one of, if not the most, expensive stone slab in the world.

An elevator serves the two main levels of the home. The top portion of the drive is heated, as are all of the exterior stone patios.

Starwood is Aspen’s premier location, offering gated security and prime mountain views. Neighbors are the glitterati, literati, and captains of industry. Former resident, John Denver, once Colorado’s designated poet laureate, wrote his best-selling song, “Starwood in Aspen,” as an ode to his community. Starwood offers Rocky Mountain serenity just three miles from the vibrancy of downtown Aspen.
