Green Gables in Woodside, California, named “Best of the Best” family compound by Robb Report magazine

In bestowing the award, editors cited the estate’s exceptional craftsmanship, rare provenance, architectural significance and spacious immersion in breathtaking Silicon Valley enclave

New York, New York (June 24, 2021) —  Christie’s International Real Estate proudly acknowledges one of its most important listings, Green Gables, in Robb Report’s 33rd annual “Best of the Best” awards in the family compound category. Located in Silicon Valley’s luxury enclave of Woodside, California, the 74-acre oasis includes seven private residences, world-class gardens, and a majestic Roman pool. Further appointments of this safe haven are the historic mansion — a masterpiece of the Craftsman era architects Charles and Henry Greene — a meditative tea house, three swimming pools, an exquisite edible garden, tennis court, and an artist’s studio, all set in an ultimately private location amid Northern California’s majestic natural surroundings.

The compound, offered at US$135,000,000 and arguably the largest privately owned tract of land in all of Woodside, was created by Mortimer Fleishhacker, founder of Anglo California Bank and the Great Western Power Company at the turn of the last century. Meticulously maintained for six generations, Green Gables has long served as a gathering place for global dignitaries, including European royalty, senators, congressmen, governors, business leaders, and creative luminaries. In 1965, the United Nations selected Green Gables as the site for its 20th anniversary commemoration gala. Future generations could optimize its wine appellation designation to create a vineyard, an existing barn structure could be the foundation for an equestrian facility and there is ample space to install golf holes.

Dan Conn, CEO of Christie’s International Real Estate, said: “The undisputed lodestar in luxury real estate is, of course, location. Green Gables offers a prime expanse of land rivaled by few in the area, which presents an increasingly rare opportunity to acquire an abundance of land with extended family living spaces in Woodside, Silicon Valley's wealthiest zip code.”

Editors of Robb Report said in bestowing the honor: “This is our 33rd consecutive year recognizing and rewarding those who have stood apart from their peers for their exceptional craftsmanship, extraordinary attention to detail and relentless pursuit of perfection in their field. Green Gables’ award for best family compound is an excellent example of this. Compounds were highly sought after during the pandemic and Green Gables exemplified this trend like no other property; a spacious, private family retreat immersed in nature, with the bonus of a fascinating history and architectural pedigree.”
