At Home With: Yves Saint Laurent

A fashion visionary who changed the way women dressed, Yves Saint Laurent also turned his keenly trained eye to collecting art and objects for his homes

In his trademark tuxedo and horn-rim glasses, the inimitable designer Yves Saint Laurent (1936-2008) poses on a floral sofa in the salon of his château in Normandy, France, in 1983 for Vogue magazine (above and bottom). Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé spent two years decorating the mansion.

Much of the château’s contents were sold at Christie’s in 2009, in the second of two sales dedicated to the collection of Saint Laurent and Bergé. The first set a record for a single-owner collection, realizing €374m ($443m).
