An evening of luxury—featuring a brand-new Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII—at the historic Darlington mansion
Real estate, finance, and marketing industry experts, media, and friends gathered at the famed Darlington mansion in Mahwah, New Jersey—one of the premier private homes in the United States and a National Historic Landmark. Outside, on the grounds of the 12-acre estate, revelers had the chance to view and inspect the all-new Rolls- Royce Phantom VIII, one of only two currently in the United States, as well as a selection of other classic and contemporary Rolls-Royce vehicles presented by Paul Miller Rolls-Royce. Inside the 50,000-square-foot mansion, colleagues and friends mingled and drank Taittinger champagne in the nearly three-story great room beneath a unique Aeolian player organ, Tiffany chandeliers and intricate woodcarvings.
Guests also had the opportunity to tour the 58-room estate and learn about its distinguished history. Originally built between 1902 and 1907 as the country retreat of George Crocker, son of railroad magnate Charles Crocker, the property has undergone an extensive yet meticulous renovation in the last seven years. The craftsmen-led overhaul carefully preserved the home’s innumerable historic details: such as the library, which features gold-leaf walls and a beamed-ceiling painted by famed Gilded Age muralist James Wall Finn, and the stately California redwood dining room.
Darlington and the Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII… are the best of the best, the result of unique inspiration and the finest craftsmanship
But the renovation also brought concepts of modern luxury to the home, including a cinema, wine tasting room, game room, treatment facilities, lap pool, and spa. The pairing of the home and the new Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII created the perfect interplay between old and new, like the presentation of Andy Warhol’s Sixty Last Suppers and Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi, which were on display at Christie’s Rockefeller Center location that same day.
“Darlington and the Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII both connect the past and future through the highest achievements of passion, talent, art, and excellence. They are the best of the best, the result of unique inspiration and the finest craftsmanship,” said Sonja Cullaro, Executive Vice President of Special Properties Real Estate Services.
The event celebrated next generations of iconic automobiles and a refreshed version of what was historically known as the ‘American Versailles.’ Everything in the home is exceptional, with new amenities juxtaposed against the bones of the fabulous old structure.
Located just 25 miles from the heart of Manhattan, Darlington mansion is listed for $48 million by Special Properties Real Estate Services.
