Originally built between 1902 and 1907 as the country retreat of George Crocker, son of railroad magnate Charles Crocker, the property has undergone an extensive yet meticulous renovation in the last seven years. The craftsmen-led overhaul carefully preserved the home’s innumerable historic details: such as the library, which features gold-leaf walls and a beamed-ceiling painted by famed Gilded Age muralist James Wall Finn, and the stately California redwood dining room.

But the renovation also brought concepts of modern luxury to the home, including a cinema, wine tasting room, game room, treatment facilities, lap pool, and spa. The pairing of the home and the new Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII created the perfect interplay between old and new, like the presentation of Andy Warhol’s Sixty Last Suppers and Leonardo da Vinci’s Salvator Mundi, which were on display at Christie’s Rockefeller Center location that same day.
