Halle Berry’s Hollywood Haven

The onetime residence of Oscar-winning actor Halle Berry has been recently placed on the market—a modern Hollywood Hills gem

Academy Award winner Halle Berry, whose performance in 2011’s “Monster’s Ball” garnered her Best Actress honors, was also a winner when it came to a discerning taste in homes. The lovely—and very private—hillside residence that Berry purchased in 1994 is now on the market. The Mediterranean-style villa enjoys a 1/3-acre lot and benefits from stunning city and canyon views. Built in 1989, the home is noted for its spacious open-plan design and recent upgrades.

Approaching the home from the street, visitors are often struck by its subtle stateliness as well as by a trio of garages—a valued amenity amid the narrow avenues of the Hollywood Hills. The home is also deceptively expansive, with more than 4,300 square feet of living space. As is true with many homes in the area, it is oriented away from the street and toward the welcoming views of the city below. It is no surprise that Berry owned the home for a decade or more—given its emphasis on privacy and seclusion.

Outside, a flagstone patio surrounds a streamlined pool and spa that enjoy southerly vistas toward Beverly Hills and beyond. A long rectangular lawn also graces a private side yard which is protected by two-story walls of glass.

The home’s outdoor areas include a patio surrounded not only by flagstone but by spectacular vistas—as well as a pool and private side yard.

Inside, an airy, open-plan design links common spaces with dining areas and the kitchen, and offers floor-to-ceiling window treatments that open up toward the city views at the rear of the house. This fluid floor plan renders the home an ideal space for entertaining.

High ceilings and an open plan lend the home’s living and dining areas a cleanness and fluidity that is ideal for entertaining.

A newly modernized kitchen is a study in clean minimalism, with state of the art appliances and broad center island.

The home’s spacious living room looks out to a loggia, patio, and pool area.

The second floor—accessed via a grand stone staircase—is devoted to private living areas that include a spacious master bedroom and hallway that look out on to lush foliage and panoramas of the city. The master bedroom enjoys vaulted ceilings and its own balcony that offers glimpses of the Pacific Ocean, as well as a luxurious master bathroom with fine stone finishes. Everywhere, generous wall space offers ideal opportunities for the display of fine art—and just possibly an Oscar statuette or two.

Vaulted ceilings and a welcoming hearth distinguish the home’s generous master suite.

A generous second master bedroom also occupies the second floor.
