The Penthouse at World-Renowned One Beacon Court in Manhattan

In a Manhattan building occupied by global titans of industry, this Charles Gwathmey-designed contemporary duplex stands out

Upon entering the penthouse aerie at One Beacon Court, soaring some 700 feet above Midtown Manhattan, the panoramic views take one’s breath away. “The vantage is remarkable,” says Erin Boisson Aries, who represents the property for the New York City brokerage of Christie’s International Real Estate. “I have seen many exceptional views from buildings around the city, but those at One Beacon Court are quite extraordinary. The perspective of Central Park is incredible.”

The 360-degree scenery spans for miles and takes in many of Manhattan’s storied landmarks. Framed by 12-foot-high oversized windows, the vistas extend from the East River to the Hudson and from One World Trade Center to the George Washington Bridge, capturing iconic buildings such as the Chrysler Building, 432 Park Avenue and the storied co-op towers along Central Park West.

The penthouse view of Central Park spans from 59th Street to its northern terminus at 110th Street to include the reservoir and surrounding majestic buildings.

World-renowned architect Charles Gwathmey designed One Beacon Court's only duplex with 24-foot double height ceilings and walls of windows.

A triumph of contemporary architecture right off Billionaire’s Row, the sky-high, 9,000-square-foot residence is the only duplex in the building and the largest in the Midtown area. The scope of that space is unique and thoughtfully allocated on two floors, one for day-to-day living with the upper level reserved as an oasis for privacy. Designed as a five-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bathroom residence by architectural legend Charles Gwathmey, the centerpiece of this palatial home is an awe-inspiring great room with its 24-foot double-height ceilings and 400-foot wall of windows.

The gourmet kitchen is fully equipped to serve large-scale affairs in either the formal dining or living rooms while its dining nook is reserved for more casual meals.

The chef’s kitchen is designed to facilitate grand entertaining with its massive size and multiple state-of-the art stainless-steel appliances, such as stoves, refrigerators, and dishwashers. An intimate dining nook is ideal for smaller gatherings and overlooks Midtown and the East River. Completing the first level are a den, home office, powder room, and a two-bedroom staff quarters.

The second level boasts a nearly 2,000-square-foot master suite, surrounded on two sides by windows for more views, with two separate baths and dual oversized closets. Three additional en suite bedrooms also include glass walls to welcome in the cityscape. Two executive offices, a media room, and a private family room located on this floor.

The pampering master suite is located on the second floor and has one glassed wall overlooking the living room and to capture Manhattan's east and northern panorama.

Completed in 2005, One Beacon Court is Midtown Manhattan’s most established business address, also known as the iconic Bloomberg Tower. Next to Billionaire’s Row, the entrance is reached securely through the private drive court off 58th Street. “The security is top-notch yet discrete,” Ms. Aries adds. “This is not only to protect the ultra-high-net-worth residents but also the world dignitaries invited to the Bloomberg offices.” The private residents’ club of One Beacon Court includes a fitness center complete with a barre exercise room and a treatment room, a resident lounge and business center, children’s playroom, catering kitchen space, plus a concierge and valet service.

The thoughtful designs separate the home's private sanctuaries, such as this executive office, from its grand public living spaces.

“Since the building is located where Billionaire’s Row and the Upper East Side meet,” adds Ms. Aries, “residents have Central Park, Fifth and Madison Avenue shopping districts, Midtown business centers, museums, galleries, and some of the finest restaurants in the city literally at their feet.”
