The city is also home to the Flathead's central shopping district, where large national chains are intermixed with local mom and pop shops. Much like the growth in health care services, the city's north-end business expansion isn't showing any signs of slowing down.


Bigfork is the quintessential lake town, located on the north-eastern corner of Flathead Lake. During the summer, Bigfork's downtown is vibrant, with lake lovers streaming into the boutique shops and eating establishments, including some the most respected restaurants in the region.

Galleries & Museums

Downtown's assortment of art galleries give Bigfork a reputation as an "art town," with some major names in Western art casing their work. Widely attended events are held throughout the summer, drawing locals from around the valley as well as tourists.


Like other towns in the Flathead, Bigfork is just a short drive from the region's many popular attractions, including Glacier National Park. But a drive isn't required to get to Flathead Lake, which comes up right to the town's doorstep.

Outdoor Activities

The lake's recreational activities are vast, ranging from the quieter pursuits of paddle boarding and sea kayaking to water skiing and simply cruising the beautiful waters. Anglers of all varieties make their way to the lake at all times of the year, including ice fishing in the winter. Along the lake's east shore, cherry orchards bloom in the summer and well-maintained state parks provide recreational opportunities through-out the seasons.


Lakeside also moonlights as a ski town in the winter. Blacktail Mountain, located just out of town, offers the unique opportunity of skiing on a hill that overlooks the West's biggest freshwater lake.


Lakeside is a cozy community situated on the shores of Flathead Lake. Much like Bigfork, it emerges as a lively cultural center in the summer with festivals, family events, and the general activity of the tourist season. The lake’s blue waters bring boaters to Lakeside’s perimeters where they can visit a number of good restaurants and bars.
