The property
Plaish Hall is a beautiful Grade I listed Tudor house which stands in magnificent gardens and grounds. Surrounded by unspoilt South Shropshire countryside, the property is a much loved family home that has been beautifully restored and well maintained by the current owners over the past 35 years.

Steeped in history, Plaish Hall is believed to be the first brick built house in Shropshire. Mentioned in the Domesday Book, the property was then substantially renovated in the 15th century. Once home to Judge William Leighton, an amateur poet and composer in the 16th Century, the house has mellow red English bond brick elevations with blue diapering and grey sand stone dressings and is H plan with gabled wings. Of particular note are the stunning chimneys, which are thought to have been based on those of King Henry VIII’s Hampton Court and are considered to be some of the finest in the country.

While impressive, the house offers comfortable and practical living space with elegant receptions rooms for large scale entertaining. It retains an abundance of period charm and character, exhibiting many of its original features including panelled walls, decoratively molded ceilings, oak floors, open fire places and leaded mullion windows.

The great studded front door opens to an oak panelled reception hall with a stone fireplace and striking wide oak staircase. The morning room is off to one side with a stone fireplace and double doors open to a stunning formal drawing room lit by deep mullion windows with a stone fireplace housing a Clearview wood burning stove. It has a strikingly decorated ceiling, along with those in both the Tudor and dining rooms, which also have fireplaces. The spacious kitchen with its breakfast area with views over the valley, adjoins the dining
room and is well fitted with a gas fired AGA and traditional larder with slate shelving. A study with fitted bookshelves, cloakroom, three W/C’s and utility room complete the ground floor accommodation.

To the first floor is the upper library with a seating area and off which lead the attractive principal bedrooms. All have the original Tudor fireplaces, mullion windows and access to en suite bathrooms. A secondary staircase connects to the upper library and leads up to the spacious second floor, which offers potential to convert into further bedrooms and living space if required.

The house is approached through gates to a wide gravel sweep to the south west of the house. There is also gated access to the rear of the property leading to the former coach house which provides double garaging and garden stores.

The house stands surrounded by glorious Tudor style gardens which have been reinstated by the current owners. To the front a wide stone slabbed terrace sits between the gable ends with a walled knot garden beyond and views lead to the avenue of trees in the parkland beyond. Mature well-manicured yew hedges compartmentalise lawned formal gardens and include an Italianate pool, herbaceous borders, gravel pathways and gateways framing views of the surrounding parkland and countryside. An informal garden with a feature pool is beautifully planted with specimen trees and shrubs.

The house is being offered with the parkland to the front with its avenue of trees and to the side a further field providing well maintained grazing land ideal for horses and livestock.
