Quinta da Alegria is a rural property, built at the end of the 18th century respecting the Pombaline architectural style. It is situated in the picturesque Portuguese village of Sintra, a World Heritage Site since 1995 and only 20 km away from Lisbon.
The slightly cooler climate of Sintra and its lush landscapes from an early age attracted the nobility of Portugal, who built in this area palaces and houses of great refinement accompanied by unique gardens of great cultural and botanical interest.
Located in this enchanted setting, of chosen grove and abundant waters in fountains, waterfalls, caves, lakes and large dimensioned tanks, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and surrounded by historical monuments, arises Quinta da Alegria, which has its origin in Seteais Palace, currently a five-star hotel.
When Elisabeth von Schmieder, Princess von Auersperg bought Quinta da Alegria in 2007, the buildings were almost ruined and the garden was abandoned.
The process of recovery and transformation of the magnificent garden and the houses that gather a 1392 sqm area of construction, took place for 2 years, respecting its original draft that earned it the certification of property of public interest.
This Quinta (manor house) comprises the Main House, which is composed by 3 floors plus a lower floor with internal elevator, 2 guest houses, chapel, tower, a house to support the swimming pool and the houses of the caretakers. In the garden, with 4 ha, with its original draft in levels, there are 2 greenhouses, a dovecote, a vegetable garden, an orchard, several lakes, waterfalls, fountains and water reservoirs.
This idyllic garden welcomes numerous species of vegetation, many of them planted in past centuries that still persist here.
Both the houses and the entire vast outdoor area present an excellent condition.
