Hakkında Fairview Point Lane

Fairview Estate, tranquil and timeless, is among the great estates of Talbot County, Maryland. Perfectly situated for ultimate peace and privacy, it lies at the end of a peninsula on the Miles River, a 12.9-mile-long tributary of Chesapeake Bay, on the storied Eastern Shore. The estate's picturesque grounds encompass 74 acres of private parkland, 19th-century formal gardens, and 2,100 feet of shoreline with a private beach, and a tidal pond with pier—all this bordered by thousands of acres of conservation land.
Fairview has a rich and fascinating history. In the 1600s, the estate formed part of a large tract owned by Andrew Skinner, one of Maryland's original planters. It is said the land was granted to Skinner by Lord Baltimore, Proprietor of the Province of Maryland, and where a great Federal-style mansion, named Fairview, was built by Skinner's descendants.
Nearly four centuries later, the Federal-style manor house sits at the heart of one of the Chesapeake region's greatest estates. According to the architectural survey, Fairview is of great architectural importance on two counts: It is a great Federal-period mansion, retaining some of the best features of that period, as well as being a great Greek Revival structure in a land where few remain or were constructed. Also of note is Fairview's beautifully restored box garden, which is a superior example of an early 19th-century formal garden.
Over the last 32 years, the current owners have carefully preserved, extended, and transformed Fairview into a grand and gracious estate. In keeping with Fairview's colonial heritage, this illustrious property now features a magnificent Neoclassical main house, facing the waterfront, glorious grounds, and world-class amenities. It is a sanctuary from the everyday world, secluded from major roads and surrounded by thousands of acres of preservation land. Fairview is a very special place unto its own, meant for the enjoyment of generations to come.

Added to the property and custom built in 1991 by ILEX builders, the white brick main house, with 14,300 square feet of living space, and designed in the Neoclassical tradition is sited at the far end of the property to take in the splendid views of the Miles River and its spectacular sunsets. Hidden from view by a deep stretch of forest, the imposing, gated entrance opens to a long driveway lined by an allée of trees and street lamps imported from Baden-Baden, Germany. Beyond is a circular motor court adorned with two 15th-century lion statues from an English castle. At the entrance, limestone stairs lead through a colonnade to a great hall with white marble floors and into a rotunda graced with two circular marble staircases.
A grand reception room offers classical symmetry with sight lines through a colonnaded terrace out to an expansive landscaped lawn and the waterfront. Its stately proportions include a 12-foot-high ceiling with decorative moldings, white marble floors, and two fireplaces. To the right of the reception room in the north wing, is a formal living room with fireplace, hardwood floors, and a ceiling with stucco relief. Farther along is a library with hardwood floors, European pine bookcases, and a fireplace mantel carved by Austrian craftsmen. To the left of the reception room is the formal dining room. This grandly appointed space, which can seat up to 28, includes a coffered ceiling, moldings, and herringbone wood floors with a walnut border. Adjacent is a delightful breakfast room with mural, marble floor, and views of the river. The large gourmet kitchen has commercial-grade appliances and a butler's pantry to serve gatherings great or small.
Upstairs, the private quarters include a generous owner's suite with terrace and fireplace, dressing room, and a spa-like bath with fireplace and soaking tub. This level has two additional bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, one with a terrace, and large closets; a sitting room with hand carved Austrian paneling; and an office. The third level offers a 10-person sauna, massage room, screening room, and full bathroom. The main house also provides a 3,000-bottle wine cellar, panic room with phone, a hunting room, staff dining room, laundry and storage areas. European transom windows, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, built-in display cabinets, automatic shutters, and an elevator are further highlights.

The Federal-style manor house, with 6,150 square feet, was constructed circa 1670. The original dwelling house, as described by a 1769 evaluation, with two brick chimneys, and gabled ends, covered with jointed shingles and weather-boarded with plank 41 ft. long and 20 ft. wide, was incorporated into a larger mansion. An extensive restoration in the mid-1800s, with substantial additions in the Greek Revival style, included the Ionic portico, with its architrave, frieze, and cornice, transom on the maids entrance, first-floor sash windows, frames and shutters, and the symmetrical form of the roofline. The manor house has since been sensitively restored and modernized, offering contemporary comforts and ample accommodations for guests or extended family. Yet it exudes Southern charm, with elegant period details, including clapboard siding, Flemish bond walls, and decorative millwork. The main entrance has a columned porch to view the tidal pond. The rear entrance has a veranda overlooking a 19th-century formal garden graced with a fountain.
Anchoring the main level is a grand center hall adorned with murals depicting boat races on the river. Formal and lovely, the reception areas include a living room with parquet floors and fireplace, a dining room with fireplace and fanny bench, a library with fireplace and built-in cabinetry, and a newly constructed kitchen with a breakfast nook and top-of-the-line appliances, including a beer kegerator and wine cooler. The second level houses the primary suite, with a fireplace and a luxurious bathroom in Carrara marble; a second suite (also with fireplace and private bathroom); and an additional en suite bedroom. The third level, dubbed the children's floor, offers a bunkroom, two powder rooms, and a shower room. Additional features of the manor house include a 350-bottle wine cellar, water tank and sprinkler system, and an original 19th-century wood-burning oven in the kitchen.

Built in the 1800s, this 5100 square foot former dairy barn has been retrofitted for leisure, recreation, events and additional guest accommodation in its rustic design, with soaring ceilings and exposed beams. The main level has terra-cotta floors, a full bar, large wood-burning fireplace, catering kitchen, two powder rooms, and a shower room. The upstairs level, open to the floor below, offers a sleeping loft that doubles as a conference room.

Additional structures on the property include the Mousetrap, a circa-1800s 900 square foot residence with two bedrooms and a wood-burning fireplace; the Victorian House, a 2400 square foot residence currently configured with staff office and two apartments; a 1200 square foot fitness studio attached to a four-car garage/event staging space; four additional garage buildings; and a greenhouse with attached flower shop. A heated pool, elevated to take in views of the river and a cabana with outdoor shower, powder room, and kitchenette; an asphalt tennis court; and a professional nine-hole course for the golf enthusiast are among the estate's resort-worthy amenities.

Reminiscent of a private island, Fairview's secluded 74-acre grounds include 2,100 feet of shoreline on the scenic Miles River, with rip-rap stone protection and a sandy beach. On the property is a tidal pond with an elevated pier. Just beyond the water's edge are the 19th-century formal gardens with their high boxwood hedges and stone fountain. Furthering the splendor of this rural idyll are thousands of specimen trees, wide verdant lawns, a vegetable garden, and a romantic gazebo, sited near the Federal house, which offers a tranquil spot to take in the views of the pastoral landscape or watch the numerous species of birds flying overhead.

Few properties with such significance, peace, and sense of place come to market. Fairview, with its serene and private setting, offers a unique opportunity to acquire a part of history, and to live in it.
