About 25 Webb Lane
This is a unique property. Located in a highly secure small enclave around the largest waterfall on the Hudson River that Henry Hudson, on his inaugural voyage up the North River, called "Bootermilk Falls," it abuts the US Military Academy at West Point on the North and looks down over our own home below to the River from a 150'perch above the Hudson. This remains the most picturesque stretch of the Hudson, where the glacier cut through the Highland Mountains to form the Hudson, where George Washington built the chain that kept the British from severing the Colonies and defeating them in detail, and where the Hudson Valley School of Painters made their mark in the 1850's. Built in 1875 for the town's Doctor, the home eventually passed to the local Church as a parsonage and was later neglected as a Church owned rental. We are an Engineer and creative writer couple next door with experience with historic homes and thought to do a B&B here, but after six months of restoration into an authentic country home with original hardwood floors, original cedar siding and windows (stormed), 2 1/2 new baths and an all new kitchen, conversion to gas heat and modern wiring, we have decided to seek a good neighbor rather than deal with the COVID questions in the near term. The gracious dining and living rooms opening onto the full length porch on the River side make for great entertaining (seen in the video) when the world returns to normal, and the Village restaurants and limited shopping in a small community of about 4,000 are a five minute walk - but the Garrison riverbank across the Hudson looks like it could be in Canada. Meanwhile the pageantry of Football, all sports, Parades, Broadway shows on weekends at Eisenhower Hall are a single mile or two inside the West Point Gate, a ten minute walk, as normalcy returns. We either drive 20 minutes to Garrison or south to Croton for the quickest one hour train ride to Grand Central, or for the financial district to Central Valley on the West to arrive in the World Trade Center site by the Path in about the same time, assuming NYC survives its current travails. It is a one hour drive down the Palisades to the GW Bridge, of course, except during the rush hour.
