Costa d’en Blanes Villa: A Mallorcan Slice of Balearic Bliss

Nestled in the lush landscape of Costa d’en Blanes, Mallorca, this contemporary villa is a true Spanish gem just waiting to be discovered

Costa d’en Blanes, positioned high on a hill just seven miles (11 km) west of the Mallorcan capital of Palma, is an exclusive enclave of one-off homes. Located at one of its highest points is this modern villa, a gleaming white stone-and-glass home with all the trimmings of a five-star resort in a serene private hideaway.

Built over three stories, this 9,945-square-foot (924 sq m) rectilinear dwelling sits on 44 acres (18 ha) surrounded by a pine forest that tumbles down the valley to the bay of Palma, and it boasts sea views from every room.

“The aspect of the house is exceptional,” says Andrea Berchtold, managing partner of Luxury Estates Mallorca, the exclusive affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate on the island. “Being so high there are uninterrupted views from wherever you are.”

Entrance from the road is via the upper floor, which opens onto a lounge area, a perfect setting for evening cocktails while taking in the picture-perfect vista.

The extensive owners’ suite—all five bedrooms are en suite—with its large seating area is also located on this level, which features a final flourish in the shape of a central glass-edged gallery from which you can look down into the main living area and heart of the house.

Downstairs, the living room—bathed in natural light—opens out onto a stone terrace with steps to the lower floor and swimming pool. Adjacent is the dining area leading to an open-plan, perfectly appointed kitchen with access to a wood-decked terrace and summer kitchen to the side.

Finally, the basement, conveniently connected to the other levels of the villa by elevator, houses a wine cellar, a gym, a sauna, and an expansive chillout room with a separate dining section, games zone, and direct access to the pool area. There’s a standalone apartment on this floor, too—ideal for guests or staff.

The clean lines of the villa are mirrored by the interior design. A cool pale-sand color palette on the walls and floors is brought to life with pops of duck-egg blue, turquoise, and silver-gray in the contemporary couches, soft furnishings, and art.

Statement plants and objets add focal points, and natural materials reign, typified in the stone floors and wood and glass finishes. Add the neutral rugs providing a sense of continuity, and this is minimalism at its best—uncluttered yet warm, relaxed, and invitingly comfortable.

This soothing atmosphere extends to the exterior, where mezzanine patios and terraces are positioned for complete privacy from the outside world. Decorative dry-stone walls and landscaped planting reflect the surrounding natural beauty and encourage an aura of tranquility. A life-size Buddha sculpture, occupying a recess in turquoise and bronze, ratchets up the Zen factor.

A single-family home, its size and overriding sense of space also make it a dream for entertaining. The multiple levels, inside and out, make ideal hangouts, while individual bedroom balconies and corner patios ensure secluded spaces for alone time.

When a little more action is required, Puerto Portals is just minutes away by car. One of the island’s most glamorous hotspots, with sleek superyachts moored in the marina, it’s a go-to for A-listers—the likes of Brad Pitt, Jim Carrey, and Bill Gates have all called in. There’s a golden beach and high-end quayside restaurants, chic bars, and designer boutiques.

“This is a standout villa, a genuine one-off with its super-high ceilings, space, and outlook. It would make a great family home,” Berchtold says. “And it’s in a super location—Costa d’en Blanes has just one road in and out, and 24-hour security, which gives both maximum privacy and assurance to its residents.”
